my favourite things- my Christmas tree

It's been a week of my favourites and if you're still around, thanks for indulging me!  When I was telling my son about all my posts, he said "mum, you're using the word MY a lot there.  Maybe you should do a kids' favourites..."  Today's favourite isn't just mine- it's my kids' too.  Our Christmas tree.

We don't have a themed tree or a designer tree or even a colour scheme.  We have a collected tree- little snaps of moments in time.

my favourite things- Christmas movies!

I think you have all realized by now that Christmas itself is one of my favourite things- and it's just not Christmas without Christmas movies.  I have been known to watch one or two in the middle of summer, much to the disgust of my darling husband.  Making a list of my favourites wasn't too hard, it was making sure it wasn't just a list of ALL THE CHRISTMAS MOVIES.

I love having a hot drink, some popcorn, a cozy blanket, my kids at my side, the dog at my feet, the cat on my lap and watching these while the Christmas tree twinkles beside us.  That's pure bliss right there.

Not many of these are on Netflix, so if you don't catch them on TV, or you don't already own them (we do) try your local library.  Most libraries have a stellar collection of movies that you can borrow FOR FREE.  It's just something I know.

On with the list!

my favourite things- Christmas cookies!

Day three of my favourite things- thanks if you've been hanging in there this week!  Today is a big favourite of mine- Christmas cookies!

I grew up with lots of variety in this area.  My mom is quite a baker- she still is.  Lots of days we would come home from school with trays of cookies cooling around the kitchen.  Even now, in December, you might luck out and be there when a tray or two come out- the kids and I seem to have a sixth sense about these things.....

I picked up my mom's love for baking and I add my contributions to the trays of cookies at family gatherings.  I have to, because my husband hates them.  Seriously- he hates them.  He says Christmas cookies taste like sawdust.  I say whatever man.

I narrowed my list of faves to 5 today.  I only baked three of them because of that right there ↑.  I do not need to eat all these cookies myself at the beginning of December.
And I could.

my favourite things- about face

I'm back again with some of my favourite things.  These are things that I have found that I love and that work for me and my family.  I'm not selling, I'm just sharing- I'm a big time review reader and base a lot of purchases on those and that's just what I'm doing too.

Today I'm talking about my face.  Ok, not my actual face, but the things I put on it.  I am no makeup and beauty guru- not by any means.  I have tried many different things over the years, from facewashes, to moisturizers to makeup- and there are some things that I love and some things that I opposite of love.

For the past two years, I've made a conscious effort to clean up my products.  First by scaling down and simplifying.  I may or may not have had about 25 bottles of nail polish, of which I used about 3 colours.  Now I have 2, but I want one more for my choice three.  I also had a boat load of makeup- and that's all scaled back now too.  I also have cleaned up by choosing more green and natural products.  I try to shop with more knowledge- I started by reading Ecoholic Body by Adria Vasil

Ecoholic Body: Your Ultimate Earth-friendly Guide To Living Healthy And Looking Good by Adria Vasil

and keeping track of her recommendations and then trying them out.  It's a good read if greening up your products is something you're interested in (New Year's resolutions maybe?)

Onto my favourites!

my favourite things - game on!

Hello there, my friends.

I've decided to try and do a few posts of my favourite things this December.  Let me start by saying that I am NOT trying to sell you anything.  Nothing.
Unless there's some swamp land in Florida I could interest you in......

Back to my favourites!

We are a board game family.  I grew up in a board game family- as a child of the 80's this isn't really surprising- and my parents and my brother still enjoying playing too.  Winter and the holidays are a great time to have a new game or two kicking around - we just played a big round of Scrabble with my folks after dinner a couple weeks ago, it was so much fun.  If you haven't figured it out by now, I'm going to share with you the top ten games we love and have loved over the years.
